On 7 and 8 June 2019, 17 representatives of the University of Economics in Bratislava took part in a volunteer event organized as part of the 13th year of the project Our City – The Days of Volunteering organized by the Pontis Foundation. An attractive event not only fulfilled its primary mission to help revitalize the environment in Petržalka, but it also played an important role in terms of education and training, as it represented a model for participating pupils, kindergartners and their parents, teachers, school management, and, additionally, personified its dissemination role in society as it was carried out in the vicinity of the University of Economics in Bratislava. Both days, the volunteer activities took place in Petržalka's exteriors, in areas full of greenery and high concentration of inhabitants great diversity.

Alexandru Minea, a respected European economist, visited the University of Economics in Bratislava with a goal in passing on his knowledge of fiscal and monetary policy to students of the Faculty of National Economics at the University of Economics in Bratislava. Students will attend to the end of the summer semester.

A group of students of the University of the Third Age (UTA) of the University of Economics in Bratislava, has recently participated in a study trip to China, which included the World Conference and World Congress on Senior Travel in Chinese Cities Wuhan and Yantai, organized by UTV AIUTA. in collaboration with Chinese organization of universities of the third age of Shandong province.

Ronald Coase Institute, named in honour of the Nobel Prize winner for economics and the protagonist of the new institutional economy, was founded in 2000 in the US to better understand formal and informal institutions—laws, rules and standards—that drive the economy and affect transaction costs. Their thorough analysis helps to increase economic efficiency and overall well-being. Several members of the Nobel Prize (in addition to Ronald Coase, Douglass North, Ken Arrow, Elinor Ostrom and currently Roger Myerson) and leading global economists and protagonists of institutional economics have served in the Institute’s Board of Directors.

On 16 May 2019, rector of the University of Economics in Bratislava, Prof Ferdinand Daňo, welcomed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Indonesia to Slovakia, H.E. Ms Adiyatwidi Adiwoso Asmady. The Ambassador was accompanied by Ms Lely Meiliani, Counselor of the Indonesian Embassy for Economic and Cultural Affairs.

Student of the Department of Statistics of the Faculty of Economic Informatics of the University of Economics in Bratislava, Romana Šipoldová, BSc made it into Top 10 students from all over the world in the SAS Student Ambassadors category and actively participated in the largest analytical event of SAS Global Forum 2019 in Dallas, Texas.

As a result of successful negotiations of the Faculty of Business Administration of the University of Economics in Bratislava (EUBA) with the Faculty of Business Administration of the University of Economics, Prague (VŠE) on 14 May 2019, during their visit at the partner institution, the EUBA’s rector, Mr Ferdinand Daňo and the dean of the EUBA’s Faculty of Commerce, Mr Peter Drábik signed together with the rector of VŠE, Ms Hana Machková and the dean of the Faculty of Business Administration of VŠE an “Agreement on Provision of a Double Degree Programme”. This is the first double degree programme at the EUBA’s Faculty of Commerce.

On 9 May 2019, a delegation from Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (SIUBE) led by the dean of International Business School (IBS), Mr Jianzhong Huanga visited the University of Economics in Bratislava. The meeting was attended by Ms Quan Jin, vice-dean for international cooperation, Mr Yuhong Shang, director of the Centre for Central and Eastern Europe and Ms Chunchli Che, coordinator of cooperation with EUBA. The University of Economics in Bratislava was represented by Mr Boris Mattoš, vice-rector for international relations, Mr Peter Drábik, dean of the Faculty of Commerce, Ms Paulína Krnáčová, vice-dean for international and public relations of the Faculty of Commerce, and Mr Jozef Orgonáš, vice-dean for development and quality assurance of the same faculty.

On 30 April 2019, the Mayor of Bratislava, Mr Matúš Vallo, met with the rectors of the largest universities in Bratislava—Mr Ferdinand Daňo representing the University of Economics in Bratislava, Mr Marek Števček from Comenius University, Mr Miroslav Fikar, the rector of the Slovak Technical University and Mr Pavol Šajgalík representing the Slovak Academy of Sciences.

The lecture of the ambassador of the Swiss Confederation, at the University of Economics in Bratislava took place on 16 April 2016 as a part of the Diplomacy in Practice lecture series. H.E. Mr Alexander Hoffet presented to students Swiss foreign policy with a specific focus on political and economic relations and relations towards the European Union which is Switzerland’s strategic partner largely due to its cultural and geographical proximity. It was indeed enriching to get acquainted with projects which run in Slovakia with a support from the Swiss financial mechanism. These projects focus mostly on the environmental and cultural heritage protection, strengthening of democracy and social protection. Important part of the lecture was also an outline of the current challenges influenced by United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union and growing populism in European countries. Questions of participating students at the end of the lecture touched upon functioning of direct democracy which is an integral part of the Swiss political system for decades, growing populism, migration flows from third countries, cooperation with other countries of the international community and a debate on how to integrate cultural aspects of minorities into dominant culture.
