The rector of the University of Economics in Bratislava, Prof Ferdinand Daňo, received a delegation from Tishreen University in Latakia, Syria on 17 September 2019. The members of the Syrian university delegation were Mr Sayouh Mohamad Louay, secretary of the Department of Economics and Planning, Faculty of Economics, Mr Basem Sodan, vice-rector for teaching activities, Mr Jaber Diba, dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Ms Kinda Salhab of the Institute of Law and Mr Ali Assad, head of the Syrian Student Association in Slovakia. Tishreen University in Syria comprises 17 faculties, of which the Faculty of Economics with its 35,000 students is one largest.
Present at the discussion was also Ms Paula Puškárová, vice-rector for research and doctoral studies, Mr Boris Mattoš, vice-rector for international relations and Mr Peter Drábik, dean of the Faculty of Commerce.
Discussed at the meeting was the cooperation between the two universities in the area of student and teacher exchange as well as the possibility of mutual scientific and research cooperation between the researchers from both universities. The EUBA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tishreen University in 2009. Between 2017 and 2019, a project under the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility programme was implemented, in which 8 incoming mobilities were granted (4 student mobilities and 4 staff mobilities).
