The new academic year at UEBA has been launched by a programme for international students, the Welcome Week. In the week of September 10 to 14, a number of events awaits the international students who decided to study at UEBA.
In winter term 2018/2019 the university will host 200 students from 23 countries who come to spend their exchange here within the European Union’s Erasmus+ mobility programme or the University’s bilateral cooperation. The majority of students comes from France, Spain, Italy and Germany. Non-European countries are represented by students from China, Japan, and as a part of Erasmus+ cooperation with partnership countries (KA107) 4 students from Syria. Compared to the last academic year, the number of international students in winter term has increased by almost 25%.
„We are very glad that international students are interested in our university. I wish they spend an enjoyable semester here and fully use every opportunity we offer them.” says Ferdinand Daňo, the UEBA’s rector. “It is a great responsibility and commitment for us to continuously improve our processes and to enhance the quality of the courses we offer.” added the rector.
The first day saw launching of the Welcome Week in the UEBA’s assembly hall where the students were greeted by Boris Mattoš, the vice-rector for international relations. The following parts of the programme include useful information about the study at the University, life in Bratislava and leisure activities that has been prepared by the Erasmus Student Network.
An intern from the university in Eisenstadt, Austria, Adam Tompa, was also involved in the organization of the event. “To organize the Welcome Week while meeting students from all around the world is an invaluable experience for me. We have prepared all the information students need for a successful start in the new semester.” says Adam.
UEBA has one of the largest international enrolment in exchange programmes in Slovakia—a fact that has been appreciated by a number of renowned national and international institutions. UEBA has been ranked by the European Commission among the top 500 institutions of higher education in Europe which send and receive the most Erasmus+ exchange students (156th place). UEBA has also been included in Erasmus Success Stories of the Directorate General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture of the European Commission and has been awarded Quality of Erasmus Mobility by the Erasmus+ National Agency for education and professional training.
UEBA cooperates with more than 350 partner universities on 5 continents, offers over 150 courses in foreign languages and organizes numerous winter and summer schools in cooperation with leading universities in France, USA and Mexico.
