Twenty-two students from the EU, Switzerland, Russia, China and Turkey participated on the 31st summer school organized by the European Regional Science Association (ERSA) in Bratislava. ERSA is the largest academic organization which gathers together researchers and lecturers in the field of regional science, regional economics and politics. As Mr. Štefan Rehák, the organizer of the event said for the SITA news agency today, the ERSA Summer School takes place every year at a different European university. The University of Economics in Bratislava hosted the event for the second time. The event was organized by the UEBA’s Department of Public Administration and Regional Development. During the programme, students met with experts from prestigious European universities and institutions. The summer school was supported by the Representation of the European Commission in Slovakia.
The main topic of the event was “Regional policy planning and analysis—evaluation theory and practice”. The programme comprised lectures from the fields of the theory and practice of planning and regional policy implementation. Discussion on the future of EU cohesion policy between invited experts and representatives from Visegrad Four, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria made part of the programme too. “Students learned the methods of policy effectivity evaluation, since systematic policy evaluation is prerequisite for transparent, effective and efficient regional development policy making. They had a chance to discuss the principles and limits of successful regional policies implemented in other countries”, said the co-organizer of the event Ms. Miriam Šebová adding that the students were selected according to their applications which presented the goals and partial results of their PhD. studies.
