On March 15, 2018, the University of Economics in Bratislava in cooperation with the Representation of the European Commission in Slovakia, and the Embassy of the Republic of Ireland in Slovakia organized another discussion panel on the future. The main guest of the event was Ms. Helene McEntee, Ireland’s Minister for European Affairs from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ireland. The other partners in discussion included Mr. Ladislav Miko, Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Slovakia, and Dušan Matulay, General Director of the Section of Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.
The subject of the debate was not only the future of the European Union, but also the current challenges it faces at European and global level. The panellists discussed the issues of justice, security, sustainable development, and social issues. An important point was the emphasis on the need to define the main objective of the future of European integration and its subsequent implementation at individual levels.
The Minister McEntee was welcomed by the Rector of the Economic University in Bratislava, Mr. Ferdinand Daňo. The ministers were accompanied by H.E. Hildegard Ó Riain, Ambassador of Ireland to Slovakia, Ms. Aingeal Ó Donoghue, Director General of the EU Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ireland, Mr. Paul Fox, Adviser to the Minister, and Mr. David Lea, Assistant to the Minister. The UEBA was represented at the meeting by Ms. Denisa Čiderová, Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies, Ms. Jana Pélová, Vice-Rector for Management of Academic Projects, Mr. Boris Mattoš, Vice-Rector for International Relations, and Mr. Samuel GODA, Vice-Dean for Development from the Faculty of International Relations at the University of Economics in Bratislava, who was also the moderator of the discussion event.
